WssTP is the European Technology Platform for Water. Initiated by the European Commission in 2004 as an industry-lead stakeholder forum, currently composed by 172 members, it is a recognized voice and promotor of water-related RTD and innovation in Europe.
The WssTP Strategic Research Agenda (SIRA) has been developed by WssTP with the input of its members, the WssTP Working Groups, and its key stakeholders. A public consultation has also been part of the drafting process. The WssTP SIRA is a living document that has initially been developed in the first half of 2016 to promote a balanced mix of research and innovation measures that contribute to overcoming the main bottlenecks towards the realization of the WssTP Vision as described in “THE VALUE OF WATER; Multiple Waters, for multiple purposes and users. The Horizon 2020 work programmes (WPs) for years 2018 - 2020 were designed around four main Focus Ares namely the Focus Area 'Connecting economic and environmental gains - the Circular Economy'.
Further development of a sustainable, resource efficient and competitive economy will require a transition to a more circular economic model with products, processes, services and business models that are designed to maintain the value and utility of materials and resources in the economy for as long as possible. The circular economy solutions should combine a strong environmental rationale with a convincing business logic.
In recent years, the European Commission has intensified its efforts to foster economic, social and environmental prosperity by moving to a circular economy and society. A systemic approach to eco-innovation is intended to promote new modes of production and consumption, triggering a disruptive transformation for a resource efficient society.
Analysis of 100 SC5-ESRs RIA, IA 2014-2015 in order to detect the most common shortcomings of the projects, 100 ESRs of 2014-2015 calls were analysed. Firstly, all weaknesses and strengths brought out by the evaluators of each ESR were observed. We separated weaknesses and strengths for each evaluation criterion (excellence, impact and implementation). Thereafter it was possible to bring out the most commonly mentioned weaknesses and strengths of each criterion (see below). Secondly, the most common shortcomings of all the analysed reports were selected as a basis for formulating suggestions for applicants (“DO’s” and “DONT’s”).
NCPs CaRE project conducted a survey with eight questions addressed to the evaluators from all the calls of SC5 2014 and 2015 work programme in order to collect their valuable experiences and observations. The purpose of the questionnaire was to perform an analysis of Horizon 2020 SC5 Evaluation Summary Reports and to raise the overall quality of services provided to clients. Based on this survey, recommendations have been made separately for the EC and for the applicants.
“Do’s” and “Don’ts” for applicants is a short version of recommendations of the evaluators. These recommendations are in good coherence with the results of the main weaknesses and strengths of the ESR analysis.

Horizon 2020 aims at fully integrating Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities (SSH) in each of its pillars and specific objectives. SSH is therefore a cross-cutting issue and embedded in the whole framework programme.
This guide addresses eco-innovation SMEs with a strong ambition to develop, grow and internationalize intending to submit a proposal to calls for the SME instrument of the Horizon 2020 Societal Challenge “Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials”. It contains hints on how to prepare for proposal conception and concrete suggestions and tips for the drafting of the different chapters of the proposal, complementing the instructions provided in the proposal template.
The objective of this report is to provide SC5 NCPs with a comprehensive overview of the main initiatives and networks that may be of interest for their work and/or for their clients.
In particular, this report aims at:
• Identifying and listing the relevant initiatives related to SC5 topics;
• Characterizing each initiative thanks to a synthetic factsheet elaborated by the authors;
• Highlighting why each initiative may be of interest for SC5 NCPs.
The main output of this report is the final list of relevant initiatives and multilateral networks investigated, while specifying the potential added value for SC5 NCPs and/or their clients (section 5) as well as a comprehensive set of factsheets describing each initiative (section 6).
