The European Commission DG Research & Innovation together with the EU-funded OpenNESS and OPERAs projects invite you to attend the European policy day on ‘Innovating with Nature: Natural Capital and Ecosystem Services for Sustainable EU Policies’ on 1 March 2016 in Brussels. The event is organised under the auspices of the Netherlands EU Presidency and will be opened by MEP Sirpa Pietikäinen. The policy day aims to demonstrate the strong role nature plays in tackling current global challenges, and the critical contributions of natural capital and ecosystem services research to sustainable EU policies.
The policy day will be highly participatory and provide opportunities to interact with colleagues and scientists on the contributions of natural capital and ecosystem services to the circular economy, sustainable development goals, and energy and climate issues. The event will showcase the Oppla platform (www.oppla.eu ), a “one stop shop” for the latest knowledge and practice on nature-based solutions. The “Ask Oppla” service will be used during the event to facilitate dialogue with hundreds of scientists from across Europe. Please bring a laptop, tablet or smart phone to participate in the debate. We invite you to register to Oppla beforehand at www.oppla.eu/user/register
We have developed an inspiring programme of showcasing, demonstration, discussion and interaction. The morning session will be devoted to reviewing practical case studies on natural capital and ecosystem services and how these relate to different EU policies and challenges. Lunch will be held at DG RTD and you are invited to meet with the science teams during the afternoon to dig deeper into specific science-policy questions. If you cannot join us for the afternoon, you will find answers to your questions submitted through “Ask Oppla” appearing in your e-mail inbox. We hope this will be the start of a fruitful dialogue.
The policy day will be held at the Royal Academies of Science and the Arts of Belgium, in the morning and at EC-CDMA building in the afternoon.
We look forward to welcoming you to this policy day!
